Tune-Up and Repair of Existing Systems

Like all machines with moving parts, air conditioning systems need routine maintenance to continue performing efficiently and effectively throughout their lifetime. Without proper maintenance, air conditioning performance and energy efficiency will decrease year by year. Below are some of the important points of inspection and common areas of repair.

Coil Fins
Evaporator and condenser coils are thin, and easily bent. This can prevent air from flowing through the coil.
Condensate Drains
Drain channels can clog, preventing units from removing humidity from the home. This can lead to mold growth if not cleared.
Refrigerant Levels
Low levels of refrigerant reduce the cooling ability of an air conditioning system. This results in the compressor working harder, using more energy, and reducing its lifespan.
Refrigerant Leaks
If low refrigerant levels are measured, we use a leak detector to determine the source and stop the leak.
Ducting Leaks
Leaking ducts allow cool air to be wasted in the attic, requiring your air conditioning unit to work harder to maintain the same level of cooling.
Evaporator Coil Airflow
Without sufficient airflow, heat transfer will not efficiently occur and the coil can freeze up. The unit's cooling capacity and SEER2 rating drops as a result.
Electric Terminals
As the system vibrates, electrical connections can loosen. Terminals can also become corroded, preventing the unit from starting.
Motors and Belts
Motors should have sufficient oil for lubrication to avoid wearing out prematurely. Belts should be tight and show acceptable levels of wear.

Replacement and New Installation

Air conditioners have a lifespan of roughly 15 years. Around the ten-year mark, efficiency begins decreasing more rapidly and parts begin to fail. Older units with a SEER2 rating less than 14 are less energy-efficient and more expensive to operate than today's units, which have a mandatory SEER2 rating of 14 or higher. As the the government phases out older refrigerants due to their ozone-depleting effects, recharging these older systems is becoming cost-prohibitive.

As an authorized Ruud ProPartner, we can replace your aging system or perform a new installation with a modern unit. Ruud is an industry-leading manufacturer of HVAC units that balance affordability, efficiency, and durability. Air conditioning systems we offer range anywhere from 15.5 SEER2 to an incredibly-efficient 20.5 SEER2 and operate at lower noise levels than older units.
